Post on time: CityMail places an order worth millions of Danish kroner with Mark Information

600 employees will have to record the amount of time they actually spend delivering post and how much post they deliver. The detailed data gathered will improve the company’s grasp of its business and prepare the way for efficiency enhancements at CityMail.

CityMail, which has had 600 postmen and women out delivering mail since 1 January, is ready to fight it out to the line with Post Danmark. CityMail will now implement IT right to the level of the ordinary postal worker. Every postman and woman working for CityMail will be equipped with a magnetic card that records data on the entire course of their working day.

The card and registration terminal solution has been supplied by the Danish Mark Information company, whose main product ProMark played a crucial role in CityMail's success in Sweden. The positive experience in Sweden persuaded the Danish sister company to place an order worth millions of Danish kroner with Mark Information, which so far has set up 32 ProMark terminals in CityMail's sorting and post building in Tåstrup and at the many CityMail centres throughout Denmark.

The object of the ProMark solution is to provide a thorough overview of the amount of time actually spent delivering post, and, not least, to discover the amount of post being delivered. Thus postal workers not only have to record the time they start their rounds and return to the sorting office, they will also have to weigh the amount of post they carry and how much they bring back with them. Comparing time consumption and amounts of post will give CityMail a detailed overview of operations, thus enabling the company to enhance efficiency and maximise profitability at all times.

"CityMail in Sweden uses ProMark in all its local CityMail centres. Besides using ProMark to record times and weights, here in Denmark we will also use it for admission control to our sorting office in Tåstrup. All postal workers, drivers, guard personnel etc must use the ProMark registration card to obtain admission to the building, thus giving us complete control of everyone entering the premises," says Business Development and IT Director Simon Skog from CityMail.

Regular company supplier
According to Simon Skog, CityMail is attempting to apply the same concept in all the markets where the company operates its postal delivery concept, so the order is of particular interest and holds exciting potential for Mark Information.

"Naturally, becoming the company's regular supplier would be both greatly in our interest and a major challenge to us. CityMail follows an ambitious growth strategy, which also involves further internationalisation. Accompanying them into foreign markets would fit in perfectly with our own internationalisation strategy, which involves precisely that, getting our foot in export markets together with our customers," says Steffen Meyer, the CEO of Mark Information.
